Humor Combined with Korean Exorcism in Movie 'Lion'

In the movie Lion, the Lion () is not an envoy, but a prophet who is erranded by God's revelation, command, and request. The story of the martial arts champion Yonghu meets the Kuma priest 'Anshinbu' and confronts the powerful evil 'Black Bishop'. The imagination of a young and energetic director explodes when he meets the actor of 62 years acting career. In the excellent mise-en-scene of the Kuma ceremony, the unexpected humor of the birdies continues, and the strength as a commercial movie is fully shown.

After losing his father as a child, the martial arts champion Yonghu (Park Seo-jun), who has only distrust in the world, finds a deep wound on his palm that is unknown from one day of nightmare. Guma from the Vatican (Exorcism: Exorcism: Expelling the forces of demons and evil from people or things) meets the priest 'Anshinbu' (Anseonggi) and realizes that his wounded hands have special power. The Yonghu, which is in a heart that the Anshinbu, who is searching for the black bishop Jisin (Woo Do-hwan), who is hiding in Korea, cannot jump into danger alone, changes gradually with the Anshinbu. Director Kim Joo-hwan and actor Park Seo-joon, who succeeded in attracting more than 5 million viewers with a new style of youth investigation action Youth Police, reunited as Lion.

The Lion, which was praised by director Francis Lawrence of Constantine, is different from the existing exorcism-based films in terms of special effects, visuals, world views, and mise-en-scenes. The action of the Bumajas who show superhuman movements during the Kuma ceremony and the activities of the Yonghu and Anshinbu who struggle against it are dynamic enough, and the visual implementation of the hands of Yonghu with special power is completed more precisely by shooting the CG to be used in advance. Especially, the action scene of the second half of the play, which was shot with one take, is the background of the movie where you can see the total set of wire and CG from special makeup. The symbol of the Kuma priesthood was licensed to use the logo image of the actual Vatican, and it was located in St. Pius Cathedral and Daegu Bokhyeon Cathedral. The ceiling set of more than 6m high and the realistic Kuma bag are prepared, and the delicacy that we have not met in the existing Korean exorcism movie is buried.

The most noticeable among the actors is Ahn Sung-ki of An Shin-bu. Ahn Sung-ki, who returned to the screen after a long time as a Lion, opens a new chapter of Korean-style Kuma priest by digesting charismatic Kuma ritual scenes and action scenes as Latin ambassadors along with warm charms such as good energy, personality and value, mentor and father. Especially, the witty and humorous dialogue of 62 years of air power convinces the audience why he is the best actor in Korea. Park Seo-joon, who showed a bright and cheerful appearance in Youth Police, Why Kim Secretary, and Yoon Restaurant 2, plays Yonghu, a martial arts player with a scar and a dark inner side, who is blunt and does not trust people well. The intelligent villains against Ahn Sung-ki and Park Seo-joon were played by Woo Do-hwan, who showed a unique mask and intense acting through the drama Mad Dog and Save Me. The appearance of Jishin in the movie, which is completed by endured the special makeup time of 5 ~ 7 hours, is well combined with the white and cold mask unique to Woo Dohwan. It feels like completing your own character that does not get crushed by the seniors' movements and action acting reminiscent of animals. However, it is regrettable that the ultimate purpose of the black bishop, who is unconditionally 'give me strength', has not been revealed in the unclear past of the Anshinbu, compared to the 'black priests' who are immersed in the Kuma ritual itself or the 'Sabaha' who hid the mystery. The unique emotion of Buddy Water, which was shown in the Youth Police, works well with unexpected humor. It is the first episode of the SCU (Lion Cinematic Universe), which leads to the Lion-Prince-Lion-Lion-Lion-Law-Law-Four episodes; it opens on July 31.
