Will Smith and Martin Lawrence return as rag-tag Miami detectives in first official look of Bad Boys For Life

The Bad Boys are officially back, more than 20 years after the release of the original film about a pair of rag-tag Miami detectives.  On Wednesday, Will Smith gave fans their first official look at the upcoming sequel, Bad Boys For Life.
The sneak peek was a photo of Will, 50, wielding a gun as he stood inside a cluttered home with co-star Martin Lawrence, 53.   The stars, back in character as Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, wore their badges as they stood calmly inside the chaotic scene. Household items were scattered across the floor of the house, which contained a wall-size image of palm trees at sunset. Meanwhile, the P. Diddy song Bad Boys For Life served as the background music.
'FIRST LOOK! Theeeeey’re BAAAAaaaack! :-) @badboys,' Will captioned the photo. The original Bad Boys, which helped launch the film careers of TV stars Will and Martin in 1995, grossed $141.4 million worldwide on just a $19 million budget.
Transformers director Michael Bay helped the successful feature and marked his directorial debut.
Michael returned to take the helm on the 2003 sequel Bad Boys II, which earned $273.4 million worldwide from a much larger $130 million budget. This time, Bad Boys For Life will be directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.
DJ Khaled scored a coveted role in the action packed sequel, Variety reported.
The upcoming flick will also welcome stars Vanessa Hudgens and Alexander Ludwig to the cast.
'The story revolves around a modern, highly specialized police unit that collides with the old school Bad Boys (Smith and Lawrence) when a new threat emerges in Miami,' the outlet reported.
The action film is set for release on January 17, 2020.
